Oil cleansing your face?! For oily skin?! If some of you haven’t heard of this method before, you may be shocked to learn that it can be the missing step in truly taking care of your face.

To quote from the article “Why Dermatologists Want You to Consider the Oil-Cleansing Method” from Self magazine: "’Cleansing oils contain hydrating and soothing ingredients that may actually be more effective and less irritating than some traditional cleansers,’ Joshua Zeichner, M.D., a New York City–based board-certified dermatologist and director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, tells SELF. Contrary to what you may think, Dr. Zeichner says cleansing oils won’t leave your skin greasy or heavy. ‘Oil absorbs oil, which means that these products can effectively remove dirt from and leave the skin clean,’ he says.”

With the selection of the right herbs and oils for your skin type, using an oil cleanser can leave your face positively radiant.

To use, simply take a small amount of the oil cleanser (even a tiny amount will do: this cleanser spreads beautifully!) and gently rub it all over your dry face and neck. You can leave it on for a few minutes, almost like a face mask, or you can rinse it right off. Some people follow their oil cleanser with a traditional foaming cleanser, while others simply use the oil cleanser.

(I use solely the oil cleanser one day, and then “double cleanse” with an oil cleanser and foaming cleanser the following day. If you’re just getting started with oil cleansing, you may elect to simply use the oil cleanser every other day, and otherwise continue with your current routine. Experiment and see what works for you!)

When you first begin using an oil cleanser, your skin may go through a “purging” period when it sheds excess sebum, flakes, and the buildup that clog pores. Don’t worry: for many people, this is simply part of the process towards luminous skin!
